Occasionally, I miss the convenience of the mecca that is Boots or (in the USA), CVS. You can pick up a prescription, buy shampoo, eyeliner and by the time you make it to checkout, you’ll probably also have a protein bar or smoothie to drink on the walk or drive home. How easy to be able to do all those things in one place. I won’t lie, I miss it sometimes. But then, whenever I dart into this beautiful pharmacy on the corner of my street, I feel lucky. European cities can be a hassle but their charm certainly exceeds their sometimes inconvenience. Just look at how wonderfully ancient this pharmacy is. It might not have protein bars or expensive eyeliner, but it has been here longer than I have lived. I love that. And with it, old ladies in their traditional white chemist coats, they move slow but they have stories and cures for ailments, advice you just wouldn’t get in a big chain store. This little luxury that so often feels annoying is why I will always prefer to live in places like Spain or France (possibly, Italy too, someday).  My Dad always tells me that the youth of today lack respect for history – and yes I know, this perhaps sounds like something your grandpa might insist on too, but I know he is right. Europe has taught me a lot, I practically feel European (in a very vague, from everywhere way) but what I have learnt to appreciate more than anything is the history of this continent. Sure, there are chain stores in Paris and Barcelona, but nestled between them are endless gems like this one, that despite the soon to be iphone 7 or corporate monopolies, they still stand and function but moreover, are celebrated. I enjoy giving my business to these places – it makes me feel like I am, in a very small way, helping keep history alive. You girls already know how deeply nostalgic I am, so yeah, I might have to walk 8 blocks to stock up on mac lipstick, but who cares when there are wonderful little places like this along the way?

Moreover, it was an honour to feature this little gem in my neighborhood as the backdrop for the first look of my 5 days of style feature with Boohoo, which I shot alongside the brand while they were on location here in Barcelona. As soon as I had chosen this outfit, the pharmacy sprung to mind; the colours correspond perfectly, don’t you agree?
