I cannot count all the years I yearned for a beautiful suitcase, it’s been so, so many. I cannot count either, how many times, I stood in line at an airport and rolled my eyes at my plastic, cheap luggage that in no way matched my outfit nor the handbag over my shoulder. To me, sophisticated luggage signifies ‘expert chic’ level, and I’ll be honest enough to admit, queen of sophistication has always been an aspiration of mine.
For as long as I can remember, especially in the days when I was most ardently struggling with money, at university or when living in Paris… I’d watch in awe at the older women and men, elegant arms in tailored blazers carrying beautiful luggage. I admired how sophisticated they looked amidst the shuffling, herding of people onto the plane. I always thought, one day, when I have enough money, I’ll buy a beautiful case and I’ll hang my Chanel or Louis Vuitton from it’s handle. I’ll wear the beautiful blazer on the cheap, uncomfortable plane. I might even own one of those dappled leather passport covers monogrammed with my initials. I love how fashion mostly consists of tiny, quiet dreams that we yearn and hold on to as woman – and this suitcase is surely one of mine. I’ll even go as far to say that Steamline luggage makes the most beautiful luggage in the entire world. I’m not an excitable woman, but when this arrived on my doorstep, I sighed and thought, ‘finally, a suitcase that matches me’ . The suitcase that makes me feel like I’m one step closer to the woman I always wanted to be.
